Summer with a side of hurricane

Good Morning!

That”s so sad, that Uncle Dick passed away! I’ll be praying for Grandma. Yeah, we had a pretty crazy week. We had the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen, Thursday. It got so bad that we couldn’t even see the road. And then Saturday, we got invited to a Fillipino dinner party! The same member who made us fish heads was friends with the Less active, who was throwing the party, and so we got invited. Apparently it’s traditional eat the food standing up, with your hands. Most people wouldn’t do it, so the host was super happy when we offered to. It was some pretty interesting stuff, that’s for sure.

Last but not least, Jessyca came to church! We’ve been working with her for  about 8 weeks now, so we were pretty happy to finally see her there. She really enjoyed it, and she said that she plans to come back next week. We didn’t get a chance to watch the fireside, We’ll have to go back and watch it later.

Well, I hope you all don’t burn up out there, Have a good week, I love you!

Love,
Elder Mattinson

After Birthday

(May 30, 2018)

Good Morning!

Thank you!  It feels pretty weird to be 20, already. We had a good day, some members had us over for dinner, we had Chicken Tacos and Pumpkin pie. So I’m staying in Berea, thank goodness. It’s always nice, not having to pack up, and move.

Jessyca didn’t make it to church again, but she did text us, saying that the Book of Mormon is starting to make sense to her. Good start, now we just ha e to help her get comfortable with coming to church. Our ward had a pancake breakfast on Memorial Day, then we did a bunch of service. We were going to go back out after, but then a big storm his, so we just made a few calls. I hope you get feeling better, especially with big red coming up!

I’m so blessed to have a mom like you, I love you!

Love,
Elder Mattinson

Thank you for the Birthday Box.

"What did you eat in Kentucky?"  Oh, you know, fish heads.

Last week of the transfer

(May 21, 2018)

Good Morning!

Wow, and I thought my week was busy. Quite a lot going on, my goodness! Our week was good, if not a bit busy, too. We had interviews with the mission president Wednesday, always a good time. After that we jumped straight into an exchange with the district leader. I was with Elder Garrison, the other missionary from my MTC District, so that was pretty fun!  Our investigator, Jessyca didn’t make it to church, we’re really hoping she does this week.

We also did a lot of service this week! We helped some members move a bunch of storage from an old 2-room house behind their’s, to their barn. I took about 6 hours, and was really humid. Elder Fossat and I were absolutely exhausted by the end of it, but I’m glad we could help. Transfers are this Saturday, so I’ll keep you updated. You have a good week, I love you!

Love,
Elder Mattinson

Counting down to Sunday

Good Morning!

Our week has flown by too! Sister King was super nice, apparently she asked you what I like, and made Mac & Cheese, and Pumpkin Pie. Very nice! We’re planning a District P-day, next week. We’re going to have a Sports & Board game day. We’re excited. Our mission goes to Corbin Kentucky, that’s a bout as far as it goes.

We did a bunch of service this week, we helped a woman move into our area, from Lexington. She’s talked with the missionaries for quite a while, and seems to like us. Hopefully that goes well! I’m excited for Sunday! I still don’t have an exact time, but around 4-5 your time is the most likely. I hope you have a good week, I love you!

Love,
Elder Mattinson

Sick week, service week!

Good morning!

We had a really good week, asides from me having a head-cold. No fun, but that’s life, right?  We did loads of service this week, we helped clean out a greenhouse, helped set up a greenhouse (that’s where the cute Australian Shepherd puppies were) and helped stack wood. We also met Alex, a referral from temple square. He visited Salt Lake on a work trip, and wanted to learn more. We taught the first lesson, and it went well, he had a lot of questions. He’ll hopefully be coming to church this week.

Berea’s a good town, with a good ward. We taught combined 3rd hour yesterday, talking about member- missionary work. I shared the story about Regina, it went really well! Our church is 1-4 as well, but with time zones, that’s more like 3-6 for you. I’ll give you a time next week.  Well, I hope you have a good week, I love you!

Elder Mattinson

No spring here, anymore!

(4.23.18)
Well, it was nice out, until today... Berea’s great! We have two colleges in our area, Berea College, and Eastern Kentucky University, so this has been pretty different for me. Berea’s a really pretty college town, with super nice members. Elder Fossat’s a cool guy, and our District leader is Elder Garrison, one of the Elders I came out with!

That was a bit of system shock, hearing about Nate’s mission call. I remember talking to him about that at my farewell. Weird. I’m surprised how fast this is all going,  but I’ll make the last bit count!

I think I’m doing good on most stuff, I think the only thing I really need is socks. The gift cards last time were really appreciated! Thank you so much, I love you!

Love,
Elder Mattinson

Staying or Going

Good morning! Well, the results are in, I’m heading to Berea, Ky! It’s been pretty sad, saying goodbyes. I’ve really loved my time in Paris, so it’s a bit sad.  We spent most of the weekend packing, getting ready to leave. Our new address is 540 nandino circle, Berea KY, 40403.  My new companion’s named Elder Fossat, he seems pretty cool!

That’s super cool, that Elder Wokolo is coming to town, I really liked his talk! Well, I’ll keep you updated on things, you have a good week! I love you!
