Summer with a side of hurricane

Good Morning!

That”s so sad, that Uncle Dick passed away! I’ll be praying for Grandma. Yeah, we had a pretty crazy week. We had the heaviest rain I’ve ever seen, Thursday. It got so bad that we couldn’t even see the road. And then Saturday, we got invited to a Fillipino dinner party! The same member who made us fish heads was friends with the Less active, who was throwing the party, and so we got invited. Apparently it’s traditional eat the food standing up, with your hands. Most people wouldn’t do it, so the host was super happy when we offered to. It was some pretty interesting stuff, that’s for sure.

Last but not least, Jessyca came to church! We’ve been working with her for  about 8 weeks now, so we were pretty happy to finally see her there. She really enjoyed it, and she said that she plans to come back next week. We didn’t get a chance to watch the fireside, We’ll have to go back and watch it later.

Well, I hope you all don’t burn up out there, Have a good week, I love you!

Love,
Elder Mattinson

After Birthday

(May 30, 2018)

Good Morning!

Thank you!  It feels pretty weird to be 20, already. We had a good day, some members had us over for dinner, we had Chicken Tacos and Pumpkin pie. So I’m staying in Berea, thank goodness. It’s always nice, not having to pack up, and move.

Jessyca didn’t make it to church again, but she did text us, saying that the Book of Mormon is starting to make sense to her. Good start, now we just ha e to help her get comfortable with coming to church. Our ward had a pancake breakfast on Memorial Day, then we did a bunch of service. We were going to go back out after, but then a big storm his, so we just made a few calls. I hope you get feeling better, especially with big red coming up!

I’m so blessed to have a mom like you, I love you!

Love,
Elder Mattinson

Thank you for the Birthday Box.

"What did you eat in Kentucky?"  Oh, you know, fish heads.

Last week of the transfer

(May 21, 2018)

Good Morning!

Wow, and I thought my week was busy. Quite a lot going on, my goodness! Our week was good, if not a bit busy, too. We had interviews with the mission president Wednesday, always a good time. After that we jumped straight into an exchange with the district leader. I was with Elder Garrison, the other missionary from my MTC District, so that was pretty fun!  Our investigator, Jessyca didn’t make it to church, we’re really hoping she does this week.

We also did a lot of service this week! We helped some members move a bunch of storage from an old 2-room house behind their’s, to their barn. I took about 6 hours, and was really humid. Elder Fossat and I were absolutely exhausted by the end of it, but I’m glad we could help. Transfers are this Saturday, so I’ll keep you updated. You have a good week, I love you!

Counting down to Sunday

Good Morning!

Our week has flown by too! Sister King was super nice, apparently she asked you what I like, and made Mac & Cheese, and Pumpkin Pie. Very nice! We’re planning a District P-day, next week. We’re going to have a Sports & Board game day. We’re excited. Our mission goes to Corbin Kentucky, that’s a bout as far as it goes.

We did a bunch of service this week, we helped a woman move into our area, from Lexington. She’s talked with the missionaries for quite a while, and seems to like us. Hopefully that goes well! I’m excited for Sunday! I still don’t have an exact time, but around 4-5 your time is the most likely. I hope you have a good week, I love you!

Sick week, service week!

Good morning!

We had a really good week, asides from me having a head-cold. No fun, but that’s life, right?  We did loads of service this week, we helped clean out a greenhouse, helped set up a greenhouse (that’s where the cute Australian Shepherd puppies were) and helped stack wood. We also met Alex, a referral from temple square. He visited Salt Lake on a work trip, and wanted to learn more. We taught the first lesson, and it went well, he had a lot of questions. He’ll hopefully be coming to church this week.

Berea’s a good town, with a good ward. We taught combined 3rd hour yesterday, talking about member- missionary work. I shared the story about Regina, it went really well! Our church is 1-4 as well, but with time zones, that’s more like 3-6 for you. I’ll give you a time next week.  Well, I hope you have a good week, I love you!

No spring here, anymore!

(4.23.18)
Well, it was nice out, until today... Berea’s great! We have two colleges in our area, Berea College, and Eastern Kentucky University, so this has been pretty different for me. Berea’s a really pretty college town, with super nice members. Elder Fossat’s a cool guy, and our District leader is Elder Garrison, one of the Elders I came out with!

That was a bit of system shock, hearing about Nate’s mission call. I remember talking to him about that at my farewell. Weird. I’m surprised how fast this is all going,  but I’ll make the last bit count!

I think I’m doing good on most stuff, I think the only thing I really need is socks. The gift cards last time were really appreciated! Thank you so much, I love you!

Love,
Elder Mattinson

Really cute dog we found.

Staying or Going

Good morning! Well, the results are in, I’m heading to Berea, Ky! It’s been pretty sad, saying goodbyes. I’ve really loved my time in Paris, so it’s a bit sad.  We spent most of the weekend packing, getting ready to leave. Our new address is 540 nandino circle, Berea KY, 40403.  My new companion’s named Elder Fossat, he seems pretty cool!

That’s super cool, that Elder Wokolo is coming to town, I really liked his talk! Well, I’ll keep you updated on things, you have a good week! I love you!

Still Snowing

Good Morning! We’ve had snow today, so I hope that answers the weather question. Our week on foot was pretty good! It took some getting used to, when trips that took three minutes now take 20, but it could be worse. The weather stayed mostly warm, up until Saturday, with more snow. The car should hopefully be fixed Tomorrow, that was the estimated time. Fingers crossed.

The temple trip idea sounds great, I just hope we would have enough time to visit every Temple in the state! We had quite the turnout, as well. A member’s son was getting baptized, and there were enough people that we had to hold it in the chapel.

Transfers are this Saturday, so I will let you know next Monday what the plans are. I hope you have a good week, at love you!

Pedestrian week!

(4.2.18)

Good morning!

Conference was great, wasn’t it? I was really surprised to hear about the temple in Russia, that’s pretty cool! All the new changes are pretty great, that’s for sure! So, the auto shop was busy last week, so I guess this week is our week without a car. Lots of walking , that’s for sure.

So Saturday morning, we had the opportunity to go help Letcher’s, a family from my first area, in Carlisle! Their son in law bought an old building, to turn into a shop, so we helped move stuff out. It was really cool, being able to help them.

Both the box, and the shirts made it safe and sound, thank you so much! You have a good week, I love you!

Pictures on the Way!

(3.26.18)

Good Morning!

I’m so sorry, I had a walkthrough of the new apartment recorded and everything, but I completely forgot to send it!  Our week was good, we’ve finally gotten news to go get the car fixed, so we’ll be doing a lot of walking this week. Our ward mission leader has offered to help, so we should be alright.

We had a huge blizzard Saturday, it was snowing & raining throughout the entire day. It cleared up Sunday, but the forecast’s calling for more bad weather. I can’t believe the Elders stood you up, goodness. That seems to happen a lot to us, right? I still remember the time you spent all day cooking for the sister with allergies, and then they cancelled. I’m always in a hurry to get to meal appointments on time, after that.😂

We haven't had too many people to teach, this week, so we plan to do a lot of finding. I’m praying that goes well! I promise I’ll send some pictures, you have a good week!

Springtime

Moving and More Snow

Good morning!

If it makes you feel any better, we’re supposed to get snow Wednesday, so I guess spring’s just terrible everywhere. We’re finally moved into the new apartment! It’s super nice, and right in town, we’re super excited! We’ll record a walk-through, later today. We shouldn’t need an apartment number, just 817 Pleasant st.

The Zone Leaders visited Saturday, and helped us clean out the old apartment, in time for the inspection. We went to Jerry’s, a pretty famous place in Paris, and I tried the famous Kentucky Hot Brown. It’s probably the most unhealthy thing I’ve eaten. Open face Turkey sandwich, smothered in cheese sauce, with bacon, and a tomato on top. It was pretty good.

Well, I hope you have a good week, stay warm! I love you!

Spring? What’s that?

Good morning! We just woke up to snow, so I’m giving up on guessing what season it is. Our week was pretty good, we spent a lot of time cleaning, but also did a lot of less active work! We’ve made so many trips to Goodwill, dropping stuff off, it’s not even funny.

So you remember that Pumpkin Muffin recipe?  I’ve started making those, and taking them to less actives, and they’ve been a hit! Everybody insists I’m the “Chef Elder”, but I’ve made sure to let them know that the recipe is simple enough that anyone could do it.

So we officially move this Thursday, at 12:00. I’ll have to make a video, showing off the new house, or something. Our new address is 817 Pleasant Street, Paris Ky 40361. Thank you so much for teaching me how to make those muffins, I never thought they’d be so useful for missionary work! I hope you have a good week, tell Dacy and Kaden I said congrats! I love you!

Staying!

Good Morning!

Yep, Elder Chowen and I are staying for another transfer! I’m fine with that, honestly. I really like Paris, so I don’t mind being here a little longer. Our week was fairly slow, altogether. I was sick Wednesday and Thursday, and then we got a call, that we’re moving into the new apartment on the 15th. We spent most of the weekend cleaning up the apartment, getting it ready to move out of. This house is pretty old, so there’s been a lot of holes to fix, and a nasty bathroom to clean up. We also helped an older member get the voicemail on her phone set up, that was quite an adventure. I can’t blame her, but it can be pretty frustrating, trying to teach an older person to use new technology. Other than that, our week was very quiet. We didn’t have too much time to teach😥. Hopefully this week gives us more time. I hope your week is warm, and dry, I love you!

This sure was a week.

Good morning! That’s awesome, that you finally got snow! Our week was... bad. Let’s be honest, it was bad. We were in a car accident Wednesday. We were turning left on a blind hill, and someone reached the top at the same time, and hit us. Thankfully, everyone’s fine, and both cars were still drivable.

I woke up Thursday morning with my neck killing me, so we spent pretty much all day trying to find an urgent care place that covers neck injury, and I apparently have some minor whiplash. They prescribed me some muscle relaxants, to help with it. We spent the rest of the week getting car estimates, and resting.

Then, at 9 last night, Jordan texted, dropping us. I’m just glad the week’s over. In better news, the new smartphones were rolled out for missionaries! We were given a Samsung J3, it’s pretty snazzy. We also got a referral, named Stephanie. She has Pneumonia right now, but she seems pretty cool!

Well, Transfer calls are Saturday, so I’ll update you next Monday. You have a good week! I love you!
